Updates & Prayer Requests for the Week of April 19th

This post will be updated throughout the week. Check back often for the most up-to-date information and requests for prayer.

April 24, 2020

2:36 p.m. – Thanks for your patience with me the past 2 weeks. It’s been a whirlwind. I finished up my latest round of chemo on Tuesday, and they sent me home immediately after it was done. So for so good with side effects. With this round though, I don’t remember feeling the side effects till maybe 7 or so days after. My doctors appointment went well today though. My platelets are still high, and my hemoglobin had come up since they discharged me on Tuesday, so they didn’t have to give me blood.

Please keep praying that the side effects would say mild. I’m experiencing some general fatigue, but nothing too terrible. I really don’t want to experience any nausea or loss of appetite this go around, and I REALLY don’t want to experience any more mucositis (ulcers on my tongue) from the last time.

A few other updates:

Technically, my leukemia is currently in remission, so I was able to meet with the bone marrow transplant team yesterday to begin discussing what a bone marrow transplant will look like for me. I spoke with the doctor via zoom, who walked me through the process, and discussed next steps. He said I am a good candidate for the procedure, barring they find a suitable match for my stem cells. I have a younger sister who will be getting tested, so I’ll keep everyone posted.

Lastly, for some reason we decided to buy a house during the crazy time we are experiencing right now. It comes in 3’s I guess: cancer, cover, and cribs. I turned to Keri last night and simply said, “I cannot wrap my head around the fact that we are closing on a house in 5 days.” It’s crazy! Keri has already practically packed up the entire house, and hopefully we will be able to start moving some of the smaller boxes over to the new place here soon. We are also super thankful to Cody Owens and the Fan community for offering to help move all of our big(er) stuff next week after we close.

  1. So great to read this update! I rejoice with you that the side effects have not been bad. I will continue to ask the Lord to protect you from bad side effects. I am asking Him to restore your strength and heal you.

I am going to be painting our bathroom this week (vacation week), so I may not send “praying hands” texts as often, but only because it will be tricky for me to get to my phone. I will still be praying each time the Lord prompts me to pray for you, brother. I send those texts only as a means of tangible encouragement in the Lord, a little reminder of God’s faithfulness to call intercessors to pray for you. He is faithful. He is the only one who is always faithful, and his hand is upon you. You are in good, strong, faithful, gentle, all-powerful hands—the very hands of the one who breathed life into you and appointed his purposes for you. He will bring to completion that good work in you that he has begun.

Fear not. God’s hand is upon you. He has you hemmed in, behind and before. He is ordering your steps. He is giving you beauty for ashes and the oil of joy for mourning.
